End Of This Blog

I've decided to stop writing in this blog after 4 years. Thanks to the many thousands of people who have visited and some who have made a donation.

One of the reasons for discontinuing is that it is made with BlogWaveStudio and the developer of this fine application for Mac no longer supports the software.

A new blog is integral to my newly vamped site here.

Cithnet

logoA week has now passed since I met with Clifford Beasley to make his web site, www.churchinthehouse.net - Cithnet. The church is being featured on BBC television some time soon.

Cliff introduced the church group to the website last Sunday. The site contains information about the 'church in the house' idea.

I also made a Web Developers version of the site which contains a blog to help us develop the site as a team.

Congratulations Camille

Image hosting by PhotobucketCamille accepts 2 awards for Best New Live Act and Best Breakthrough Album for "Le Fil" in Les Victoires de la Musique 2006.

Matthew wrote:
Instead of giving an acceptance speech, both times Camille launched us into an acapella impro. I think it's fair to say that I've never seen that before at an awards show. What more expressive and more graceful thank you than the creation of music itself?

The 10 Game

the 10 gamea creative game to play anytime anywhere

  1. A round starts by someone asking the question:

    "Can we name 10 ....?"

For example "Can we name 10 insects?" or "Can we name 10 football teams?" or "Can we name 10 musical instruments?" etc.

  2. Everyone answers the question outloud counting each answer using your fingers and thumbs (so you can all see) to count up to the 10th answer.
  3. The person who gets the 10th answer becomes the player who asks or chooses the next new question... then begin again.

Start with an easy question to get in to the swing of the game, aim to get all ten answers quickly. With each round the questions can become more (or less) challenging, the more rounds played, the more one gets in to playing, it can become quite addictive.

The 10 Game History:
'invented', 'discovered', 'developed' over many years by many players of all ages, on long journeys, sitting outside in the sun, picnics, on the train, teaching music, sharing, walking, public houses, buses, during sound checks, sitting in traffic jams, etc. Making up questions and thinking of topics is fun and challenging. Make up variations of play, have ten answers performed, or from poems, or graffiti... quotes... guestures... actions... anything you like... endless possibilities... play for a minute... or for hours... no more boredom, ever!

ACME Whistles

Roadrunner & CoyoteI've been a fan of ACME Whistles for as long as I can remember. Swanee whistles, Sirens, Tug-boat whistles, World's Loudest Whistle etc etc, the website has audio to hear each product. I was so thrilled to discover they're in Barr Street, Birmingham, so I plan to pay them a visit.

Way back in the 1860s, Joseph Hudson, who was a Birmingham trained toolmaker, converted his humble washroom at St. Marks Square, which he rented for 1s. 6d. (one shilling and six pence per week) into a workshop. Here he did anything he could to supplement the family income from watch repairing to cobbling shoes. Today Acme whistles are recognized as some of the finest whistles manufactured in the world today.

Balloon Bass

Classification of Balloon Bass
by Jonathan Ritter, assistant professor of ethnomusicology, UC Riverside
As an ethnomusicologist, I can tell you that the balloon bass defies the usual categories of instrument classification, falling somewhere between those called chordophones (string instruments) and membranophones (basically, drums). But such technical analysis is rather beside the point. It’s what you can do musically with an instrument that matters.
Addi Somekh’s “balloon bass” is one of those perfect marriages of the silly and sublime. Combining the humblest of materials with pure human ingenuity, the balloon bass’s surprisingly adaptable “voice” and musical potential reminds us all of the reasons we play and listen to music in the first place: for the sheer joy of making sounds and playing together.

Tungsten W

image: Tungsten WWhile in Nelson, New Zealand, I bought myself a Palm Tungsten W PDA with view to enhancing my record keeping while teaching and developing applications.

It's a 2 year old device so I bartered with the guy in the Warehouse Stationary and got it for less than half-price.

The first way I used the PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) was using the Memo pad to make entries for myNZtrip blog while out on various adventures on my new bike.

Embedded in the Tungtsten W is a mobile phone and internet access and email via GPRS using the Orange SIM card. You can now email me direct to this Palm device. I can sync all my address book and iCal using iSync on my eMac and update my blog. Started a new blog called Tungsten Blog which is made on the PDA using hblogger.
